The off-camera drama continues at CBS, months after a merger led to massive layoffs and resignations. The latest drama involves the network’s long-running 60 Minutes program. The news show is reportedly on the brink of losing a veteran anchor amid a feud with its editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss. Keep reading to find out the latest problem threatening the credibility of CBS News.
CBS Lands Major Interview With Israeli Prime Minister
Since its premiere in 1968, 60 Minutes has been the go-to source for bombshell interviews with world leaders, celebrities and other public figures. In the past, the show has aired interviews with Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, among many other high-profile figures.
The popular news program landed an exclusive interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It was his first major interview since Israel and the U.S. went to war with Iran. President Trump has given several indications that the war should be over soon. However, Netanyahu disagrees.
“I think it accomplished a great deal, but it’s not over,” the Prime Minister told Major Garrett, the Chief Washington Correspondent for CBS News. The episode aired on Sunday, May 10. However, viewers were surprised to see Major Garrett lead the interview instead of one of the regular 60 Minutes anchors. One veteran anchor was reportedly blindsided by losing the interview and is considering leaving the program over it.
60 Minutes Veteran Anchor Leaving CBS Amid Bari Weiss Feud?
The CBS News division has already lost several big-name anchors. Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson resigned from CBS Evening News in late 2025. Tony Dokoupil was promoted from his morning news gig to anchor the evening news. Anderson Cooper left his position with 60 Minutes despite the offer of a huge pay raise. Now, another veteran anchor could be leaving amid a feud with Bari Weiss.

Lesley Stahl has been with 60 Minutes for over three decades. She joined the CBS News program in 1991. According to Status, Lesley Stahl was working for months to secure an interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, Bari Weiss reportedly went around her, booked the interview, and gave it to Major Garrett instead.
Lesley Stahl, 84, was reportedly blindsided by the betrayal. But this isn’t the first time Bari Weiss gave Major Garrett a prominent 60 Minutes interview. He interviewed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in March. Getting benched has reportedly caused Lesley Stahl to consider leaving when her contract is up later this year.
The longtime news anchor was “devastated” in 2025 when Bill Owens left his position as executive producer of the news program amid the merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media. The merger has led to many changes both on camera and behind the scenes. Stay tuned to see if it leads to Leslie Stahl leaving the network after more than 30 years.
