Isaiah Hartenstein has agreed a new three-year contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder worth $75 million, according to reports in the United States.

The 28-year-old centre is set to remain with the NBA champions through the 2028-29 season after reaching terms on an extension that further strengthens Oklahoma City’s long-term core.

The deal reportedly includes a 15% trade kicker and a mutual option that would allow both Hartenstein and the Thunder to revisit the agreement before its final year.

    Thunder rewarded after key signing

Hartenstein joined Oklahoma City as a free agent in the summer of 2024 and quickly established himself as an important part of the team’s success.

The German-American centre provided the physical presence and rebounding ability the Thunder had been seeking, helping balance a squad built around younger stars.

Across his first two seasons with the franchise, Hartenstein averaged 10.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, becoming a regular starter in the frontcourt.

The new contract means his guaranteed earnings with Oklahoma City will rise to $134 million across five seasons.

Injuries fail to halt his impact

Although injuries have disrupted parts of his time with the Thunder, Hartenstein has remained a significant contributor when available.

A broken thumb delayed the start of his 2024-25 campaign, while a calf problem also limited his appearances last season.

Despite those setbacks, he has played 104 regular-season games during his two years in Oklahoma City and continued to make an impact on both ends of the floor.

His ability to rebound, defend and facilitate from the centre position has made him a valuable piece of the Thunder’s system.

    Play-off performer secures future

Hartenstein’s importance was particularly evident during Oklahoma City’s recent play-off runs.

He featured in all 38 postseason games across the past two years, starting 35 of them as the Thunder established themselves among the NBA’s leading teams.

During that stretch, he averaged 9.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, providing consistency in high-pressure situations.

By securing Hartenstein on a long-term deal, Oklahoma City have ensured one of their key championship contributors remains part of the squad as they look to build on their recent success.
