India Women produced one of the finest performances in their Test history, defeating England Women by a massive 270 runs in the one-off Test at Lord’s on the fifth morning. Needing just four wickets to seal victory at the start of the final day, the visitors wrapped up the remaining resistance in the opening session before lunch to complete a famous triumph at the Home of Cricket. The comprehensive win was built on standout contributions from both the batting and bowling units, with centuries, crucial half-centuries, and disciplined spells combining to outclass England across all five days.

Kranti Gaud’s dream spell sets up India’s dominance

After being put in to bat, India posted a competitive first-innings total of 285. Smriti Mandhana laid the platform with a fluent 83, displaying her trademark elegance through the covers, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur added a composed 58 to strengthen the visitors’ position. England spinner Sophie Ecclestone was once again her side’s standout bowler, finishing with impressive figures of 3/68 to prevent India from pushing beyond the 300-run mark.

England’s reply never gathered momentum as India’s bowlers kept striking at regular intervals. Debut sensation Kranti Gaud stole the show with a sensational five-wicket haul, dismantling the middle and lower order to finish with outstanding figures of 5/37. Amy Jones fought hard with a resilient 52, while Nat Sciver-Brunt chipped in with 44, but England were bundled out for just 170, conceding a first-innings deficit of 115 runs.

Yastika Bhatia’s century stretches India’s advantage

Holding a sizeable lead, India made full use of the batting-friendly conditions in the second innings. Yastika Bhatia played one of the finest knocks of her Test career, crafting a magnificent 113 that anchored the innings. Mandhana continued her outstanding match with another classy contribution, scoring 70 to complete an excellent Test with the bat.

Richa Ghosh added further misery for England with an aggressive half-century, striking 50 to accelerate the scoring before India declared at 341/7. The declaration left England facing an imposing target of 457.

Despite carrying a heavy workload throughout the match, Ecclestone once again led England’s bowling attack with remarkable determination. The left-arm spinner claimed 5/118, completing an eight-wicket match haul, although her efforts were not enough to prevent India from setting a daunting fourth-innings chase.

India finish the job on final morning

England’s hopes of pulling off an unlikely escape quickly faded as India’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure in the final innings. Jones once again stood tall with 54, completing a fighting match that saw her register half-centuries in both innings. Ecclestone also showed grit with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 50, but England never looked capable of threatening the mammoth target.

Sneh Rana led India’s attack in the fourth innings with figures of 4/42, while the rest of the bowling unit chipped in to ensure wickets fell at regular intervals. England resumed the fifth day needing to survive with only four wickets in hand, but India wasted little time in completing the formalities, claiming the remaining dismissals during the first session before lunch.
