Cogeco customers in the Hamilton, Ont. region have been dealing with intermittent outages for weeks, but the company now says it has fixed the problem.
Several Cogeco customers have experienced internet, TV, and home phone outages over the last two weeks in Hamilton. That includes myself — I’ve had intermittent outages with my Cogeco internet as far back as the beginning of April, though it’s been noticeably worse since around April 24. Typically, outages last a few hours but can happen multiple times in a day.
In an email to MobileSyrup, Cogeco confirmed that the intermittent outages were caused by an “underperforming network component.” The company says it needed to perform extensive monitoring to isolate the issue due to its intermittent nature.
“The component was successfully replaced [Wednesday] morning. Additionally, we performed proactive maintenance and hardware optimization to ensure the local network is balanced and performing at full strength,” Cogeco said.
Although the connection should now be stabilized, Cogeco acknowledged that some residents may still experience issues specific to their in-home equipment and asked anyone still experiencing issues to contact Cogeco support.
Cogeco did not answer MobileSyrup‘s questions regarding compensation for impacted customers.
