Alain Hernández in A Gun, a Bullet and a Panda
Catalonian filmmaker Oriol Cardús (director of the documentary Entre mareas) is making his feature-length fiction debut with A Gun, a Bullet and a Panda, a movie with hints of surrealism toplined by Alain Hernández (Deviant, 7 Reasons to Run Away (From Society)), José Troncoso (On the Fringe) and Teresa Ferrer (Tengamos la fiesta en paz). What’s more, it boasts the involvement of Petra Martínez (an actress who was Goya-nominated for That Was Life and who has just been appearing in The Good Daughter), Emma Ozores (Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis), Patricia Conde (the series Alpha Males 4), Mar Ulldemolins (The Ministry of Time), Carles Martínez (My Friend Eva), Francesc Ferrer (Jokes & Cigarettes, The 47) and Dafnis Balduz (Los renglones torcidos de Dios).
According to the helmer, deep down, this black comedy is “an invitation to discard the notion of considering yourself a victim and just jump in headfirst with no safety net to do whatever you feel like doing, with the conviction that you always get a second chance”. In the screenplay, written by Cardús himself, we are introduced to Saúl (played by Hernández), a film director whose partner has left him, who’s unemployed and whose bank account is about to go into the red. He is wallowing in a deep depression that has kept him holed up in his house for more than a month. But when a mysterious package appears on his landing – containing a revolver, a bullet and a cryptic note – it unleashes a series of events that will completely alter his life. Saúl embarks on a crazy adventure packed with unexpected twists and turns, where nothing is what it seems and where reality often merges with dreams.
A Film and Audiovisual graduate from ESCAC, after taking a film-directing course at the San Antonio de los Baños Film School (Cuba), Oriol Cardús began his professional career in 2003, and after spending three years as an editor and post-production director at Albiñana Films, he made the leap to directing adverts. Since then, he has shot around 200 adverts for national and international clients, and is currently combining his work as a filmmaker with that of a freelance director for various production companies specialising in advertising. In 2011, he founded Sin Parpadear, and has worked as a screenwriter and director for the web series Emerson, for the short films 600$ and El productor, and for the non-fiction flick Entre mareas (2025), which tells of Quirze Codina’s journey: after leaving behind his life as a successful entrepreneur in Barcelona, Codina – together with his partner, Ale – embarked on an artistic, physical and emotional adventure on some of the world’s most spectacular beaches, transforming the sand into a canvas and allowing the sea to be his ultimate paintbrush.
A Gun, a Bullet and a Panda is a production by Una pistola, una bala y un panda AIE and Sin Parpadear SL, a Barcelona-based outfit created by Oriol Cardús and producer Jordi Carbonell, which has been shot on location in various parts of Catalonia. It boasts a budget of €5 million, which has been provided through private sources. It will land in Spanish movie theatres on 5 June, courtesy of Sin Parpadear SL.
