President Donald Trump Recently Discussed The WHCD Shooting On 60 Minutes
On April 25, President Donald Trump announced plans to attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, marking the first time that he had attended the event during his presidency. He was accompanied by his wife, First Lady Melania, and Vice President JD Vance.
However, during the event, reports had come out that gunshots could be heard. The gunman was later identified as a 31-year-old, Cole Tomas Allen. During early reports, it was shared that an officer was shot during the incident, but was protected by a bulletproof vest.
Following the incident, Trump clashed with journalist Norah O’Donnell during an interview for 60 Minutes. Things took a turn when O’Donnell read a passage from the suspect’s writings that attacked the president.
After the alleged manifesto described Trump as a “pedophile, rapist, and traitor,” the president fired back. He shared, “He’s a sick person, but you should be ashamed of yourself reading that, because I’m not any of those things. You shouldn’t be reading that on 60 Minutes. You’re a disgrace. But go ahead, let’s finish the interview.”
The Manifesto Didn’t Appear To Name Trump Directly, But He Appeared To Believe Himself To Be The Intended Target During The Interview
Trump continued to say the claims were baseless. He continued, “I’m not a rapist. I didn’t rape anybody… I’m not a pedophile… You read that crap from some sick person.”
Despite the attack, Trump also shared that the White House Correspondents’ Dinner would be rescheduled within 30 days, with increased security measures. The president shared, “We can’t let something like that stop it. I think it’s very important that they do it again.”
According to Radar Online, Allen, a teacher from Torrance, California, sent his manifesto to family members shortly before the attack. He allegedly wrote, “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”
As the outlet noted, the manifesto didn’t directly name Trump. However, as seen in the 60 Minutes interview, he appeared to have seen himself as the intended target of the writing. At one point during the interview, O’Donnell noted this, asking the president, “Did you think he was referring to you?”
