Namibia will take on South Africa in the first match of the Namibia T20I Tri-Series 2026 at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Friday. The hosts are the only Associate nation in the three-team tournament and will be keen to make a strong impression against a South African side packed with promising young talent.

Gerhard Erasmus will lead Namibia, with the experienced all-rounder joined by players such as Michael van Lingen, Zane Green, Jan Frylinck and Ruben Trumpelmann. Playing in familiar conditions could give the hosts an advantage, particularly if their key players can adapt quickly and put pressure on South Africa during the powerplay.

South Africa, meanwhile, will begin the series with a squad containing several exciting names. Bjorn Fortuin will captain the side, while Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, and Kwena Maphaka provide plenty of quality across the batting and bowling departments. They will be expected to make a winning start, but Namibia’s home advantage could make the contest more competitive than the difference in rankings suggests.

    Namibia Cricket Ground Pitch Report

The surface at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek is expected to offer a good contest between bat and ball. The pitch has generally provided enough pace and bounce for batters to play their shots, while the shorter boundaries can make it difficult for bowlers to contain the scoring once batters settle in.

Fast bowlers could get some movement with the new ball, particularly during the opening overs, but batters should find it easier to score as the innings progresses. The surface has also produced several high-scoring first innings, with teams managing to cross the 200-run mark on multiple occasions.

Spinners may have to rely more on variations in pace and changes of trajectory rather than expecting significant turn. With the pitch expected to remain fairly consistent throughout the match, chasing could also be a viable option. The captain winning the toss may therefore prefer to bowl first, make use of the early conditions and then assess the target during the chase.

    Squads

Namibia: Gerhard Erasmus (c), Michael van Lingen, Zane Green, Bernard Scholtz, Ruben Trumpelmann, JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, Louren Steenkamp, Malan Kruger, Jack Brassell, Max Heingo, Alex Volschenk, Junior Taayanda, Nicol Loftie-Eaton, JC Balt, Waldo Smith

South Africa: Bjorn Fortuin (c), Eathan Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann, Rubin Hermann, Duan Jansen, Kwena Maphaka, Nqobani Mokoena, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dré Pretorius, Lutho Sipamla, Jason Smith, Prenelan Subrayen
